THE TIMEOUT. Review – Tri Lanka

When you’re lucky enough to live in a country as central as the UAE there are no shortage of exotic locations to choose from for your next long weekend away. Whether your preference is for a culinary experience, to completely unplug, to have a little fun, or an active escape, there are hundreds of options that are literally on our doorstep. The challenge becomes where to go when you want to do it all? Well we think we may be one step closer to finding the one destination that ticks all the boxes – a little SriLankan sanctuary called Tri Lanka, located on the banks of Lake Koggola and just a few hours from Colombo Airport.

On arrival at Tri, you would be forgiven for thinking you have just entered a luxe detox retreat. An instant sense of calm engulfs you as you enter the gates, the stunning scenery and sounds of nature an instant relaxant (especially for us city dwellers). Welcomed into the gates by chefs foraging for locally grown produce and then promptly shown the idyllic yogashala located in the trees, you are left wondering when your green juice will arrive. But when you are guided to the open plan bar area overlooking the most stunning pool infinity pool and offered a Beetroot Martini (you are on holiday after all) you realize they have managed to flawlessly combine the best of both worlds.

That is the magic of Tri, their mastery of the illusive “balance”. Every element of the resort, from the design, the menu, the yoga, has been curated to provide a sense of calm and rejuvenation, but at the same time leaves room for a lot of fun and a little indulgence. The country’s first sustainable hotel, Tri’s rooms are designed in harmony with the natural environment but the spacious interiors never compromise on luxury. Over 80% of the items on the menu are sourced from within 30kms of the property, with world class chefs offering a unique twist on the local fare that caters to every taste bud, from vegans to those in need of a protein hit, it’s healthy yet indulgent enough that you are never left wanting. Even the yoga provides you with perfect balance. Ayurveda is the core method taught at Tri, a practice that varies its approach based on the exact body and mind needs of each individual student. So whether you are in need of a little grounding, soothing or invigorating, you will find it in Tri’s beautiful yogashala in the trees.

Tri is truly something special, it’s the perfect getaway for those who want it all, yet want to do nothing at the same time. Just a few nights in this little gem will leave you relaxed, rejuvenated and completely pampered.
